30 Day Song Challenge - Day 1

Oh, how I miss MySpace surveys...the inane questions, the absurdly self-centered notion that anyone would want to know such intimate details about you...ah, memories. Well, guess what? A blog is a primary place to put such crap and so I am going to copy the staff at Country Universe and do it here.

So if you haven't been on Facebook lately, here's how it works: Everyday, I'll share my pick for each category. I know there are several versions of the 30 Day Song Challenge, but I'll be using the same one as Country Universe. Heregoes...

Day 1 - Your Favorite Song

"Take It On the Run" - REO Speedwagon, Hi Infidelity (1980)

It took me a long time to discover what my favorite song really was. I first heard this little ditty on my soft rock station in the 8th grade. Truly, I don't think it belongs on a soft rock station, because it is clearly a ROCK song, but whatever, I am forever grateful to the nimrods at Classy 99.9 none the less.

The song is basically about a naive, cuckolded man who gives his commitmentphobic lady an ultimatum: be true or leave.

No, I can't really relate to the lyrics, but musically, I fucking love this song! It starts out pretty slow and meandering and then builds and builds and builds and BUILDS with a 47 second guitar solo until it climaxes in a glorious orgasm of musical brilliance and badassery.
